Varnum Actively Seeking to Apply for Grant

Posted in:

Varnum Public Schools is actively seeking to apply for the 21st Century CCLC grant for the 2021-2022 school year. Varnum has designated the greatest need for the project to include Pre-K through 8th grade.

Varnum Public Schools, along with multiple community partners, propose to impact students through academic enrichment learning programs with an intentional focus on improved reading, mathematics, and tutoring/homework assistance. This evidenced-based program will help students meet the Oklahoma Academic Standards in the core academic areas in English/language arts, math and science. In addition, the program will offer STEAM, positive youth development that will include mentoring and counseling services, and parent and family engagement outcomes.

The proposed beforeschool program (7 a.m.-8 a.m. Monday through Friday) will provide a safe environment for students to receive homework/tutoring assistance. The afterschool program will be from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. five days a week and will provide access to activities not offered during the school day program. Fun, educational enrichment activities may include robotics, cooking/nutrition, art, music, foreign language, sewing, woodworking, fitness/yoga, and archery, based on the results of interest surveys given.

In addition, there is a family component which will provide opportunities for monthly family engagement such as mathematics, game nights, literacy nights, STEAM nights, and family educational services. Parents/guardians/family members will be offered classes in financial planning, computers, substance abuse, domestic violence, and parenting classes. The proposed programs will provide engagement in activities based on the interests surveys of students and input from families and community partners.

The proposed program will also include a six-week summer program to provide opportunities for students to maintain academic skills while promoting self-confidence, character building, and creativity. Transportation will be provided to assist at risk families’ participation in the proposed program. The program will take place in the Varnum Public School buildings.

Grantees will be awarded July 1, 2021. Please submit any concerns, suggestions, or questions to:
