Underage Driver Allegedly Leads Police on Chase

Young passenger says he was forced at gunpoint to get in stolen vehicle

An underage driver accompanied by two other juveniles, one of whom told police he was forced at gunpoint to go along, allegedly led authorities on a high-speed chase through Seminole early Wednesday morning.

Just after midnight on March 10, Corporal Kyle Younger of the Seminole Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, which was identified as a Land Rover with blue lights underneath it.

According to a police report, Younger was notified by dispatch that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Ideal Street at a rate of approximately 80 miles per hour. Other agencies, including the Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police Department and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department were notified and Younger and Lt. Kyle Wheeler remained on standby to see if the vehicle would reattempt to enter the city limits.

Lighthorse Officer Tom Wood began pursuing the vehicle at Highway 59 and NS3540 then turned north onto Old Highway 99 from EW1260. Younger joined the chase at EW1240.

According to the police report, the pursuit continued throughout residential areas in Seminole with the driver of the alleged stolen vehicle running multiple stop signs. The chase came to an end in the Northwood subdivision with two suspects bailing out of the Land Rover, which had rolled to a stop in the front yard of 2340 Northwood Drive.

As Younger began a foot pursuit, he noticed a person standing with their hands in the air by the left rear passenger door of the Land Rover. The suspect was ordered at gunpoint to get on the ground, and Younger advised the other authorities involved in the chase that the suspect was unarmed and “scared.”

According to the police report, the passenger told Younger that one of the other suspects, presumably the driver, held a gun to his head and forced him to get inside the Land Rover.

At least one suspect was arrested and booked into the Seminole County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle. The names of the suspects have not been released due to their juvenile status.
