Two Arrested After Stop in Alleged Stolen Truck

Posted in:

Two Wewoka suspects have each been charged in the District Court of Seminole County with a felony count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Collin Shane Mullins, 23, and Erica Bruning, 39, were arrested in the early morning hours of July 12.

According to the probable cause affidavits filed in this case, Wewoka Police Department Officer Tristin Rempe observed a black, single cab Dodge truck without a license plate turn eastbound on 6th off Wewoka Street at approximately 1:58 a.m. July 12.

After initiating a stop, the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of a local business. The driver, identified as Mullins, was advised he had been stopped because the vehicle had no license plate, the affidavit states. He and the passenger, later identified as Bruning, stated they had just bought the truck. When asked for paperwork, Rempe was handed a piece of notebook paper that read, “I (name withheld) have sold my truck and everything in it to my sister-in-law for 10 dollars on July 7, 2021, at 9 a.m.” with a signature at the bottom. The paper was not notarized and there was no VIN number on it.

The report states that, when asked for a driver’s license, Mullins allegedly stated he did not. When asked for the insurance on the vehicle, Bruning replied that it was at the house. Bruning was asked for a license and handed the officer a Kansas driver’s license.

After contacting dispatch, Rempe was informed there was a warrant for Mullins through Seminole County, and they wanted him.

Mullins was placed under arrest and placed in the back of the officer’s patrol car. Bruning was advised to get anything she needed from the vehicle because it was being impounded. While waiting for the wrecker, dispatch requested the VIN number of the vehicle. A short time later dispatch advised that the vehicle was allegedly reported stolen out of Kansas.

Bruning was placed under arrest, and the two suspects were transported to Seminole County Jail. The vehicle was towed by wrecker.
