Tow Truck Driver Killed in I-40 Crash
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a fatality collision occurred on Tuesday evening, March 28 at approximately 9:26 p.m. on I-40 westbound near mile marker 190 in Pottawatomie County.
The report states that the victim, Kyle McCullough, 27, Shawnee, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet tow truck that was parked. He was out of the truck when he was struck by a 2017 Freightliner driven by Shengjie Li, 43, of Rancho Cucamonga, California. McCullough was pronounced deceased at the scene by Earlsboro Fire Department from injuries sustained in the collision.
Li was not injured.
A passenger in the tow truck, Christina Skaggs, 35, Shawnee, was not injured.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, the report states. The condition of the driver was apparently normal, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Pape of the Traffic Homicide Division of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was assisted by Lt. Nickell, Trooper Snyder, Trooper Byrne, and Trooper Sanders, all of Troop A. He was also assisted by the Earlsboro Fire Department and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department.
