Tax Revenue up Across Seminole County
April sales tax receipts were up over the year for every entity in Seminole County, the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) reported last week.
The OTC recently made its monthly sales tax disbursement to Oklahoma’s cities and towns, which was based primarily on April business. Local sales tax revenue was up by an average of 19.5 percent for the county’s four largest cities (Konawa, Maud, Seminole and Wewoka), and by an average of 31 percent for the towns of Bowlegs, Cromwell and Sasakwa. Revenue was also up for Seminole County.
According to the OTC, the City of Seminole received $556,023.45, a 17 percent increase over the $473,666.74 it received last June. The City of Wewoka’s distribution of $87,035.80 was up nearly 24 percent and Konawa saw a 30 percent increase with a disbursement of $37,369.45. Maud, which is split between Seminole and Pottawatomie County, received $15,403.69, a six percent increase. Cromwell’s amount of $5,982.89 was up 62 percent, Bowlegs received $2,555.07 (up 29 percent) and Sasakwa received $1,069.72, a three percent increase.
The Seminole County coffers saw a healthy increase with a distribution of $290,948.43, up 29 percent over June 2020 when the amount was $225,368.07.
The OTC also made over $120,000 in use tax disbursements to entities in Seminole County this month and, with one exception, the amounts were up significantly over June 2020. Use tax is collected when goods are purchased from out of state – online or otherwise – then used within Oklahoma. The use tax distribution is recapped below:
City of Seminole: $53,130.41 (+32%)
City of Konawa: $11,786.34 (+50%)
City of Maud: $5,668.97 (+28%)
City of Wewoka: $13,746.79 (-53%)
Seminole County: $39,275.52 (+21%)
The June distribution of sales tax collections by the OTC primarily represents local tax receipts from April business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from April 16 - 30 and estimated sales from May – 15.
