The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma encourages all Oklahomans to take part in Hunger Action Month this September. During the month, people are encouraged to stand together with their local food banks to help fight hunger.

“Please do what you can to shine a light on the Oklahomans who are food insecure,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “No action is too big or too small. Just take action, whether that is by wearing orange for hunger awareness, starting a food or fund drive or joining us for a volunteer shift.”

Throughout the month, the Regional Food Bank urges residents to join them for a variety of activities to raise awareness to hunger in the state:

Sept. 1 - 4: Hunger Action Month Kickoff - Update your social media profile with the Regional Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month frame. Visit rfbo.org/hunger-action-month to find the frame and mark your calendars with the month’s events. Sept. 5 - 11: Support the

Sept. 5 - 11: Support the Regional Food Bank’s Partners - The Regional Food Bank has partnered with several businesses around the metro to raise money during Hunger Action Month. Visit rfbo.org/hunger-action-month to find the fun ways you can give back during September.

Sept. 12 - 18: Wear Orange and Volunteer Week - Sign up to volunteer at the Regional Food Bank’s Volunteer Center or at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Food & Resource Center. Visit rfbo.org/volunteer to sign up. September 17 is Hunger Action Day and the perfect day to wear orange to promote hunger awareness. Post a photo of yourself wearing orange and talk about why you choose to fight hunger in Oklahoma. Be sure to use the hashtags #HungerActionMonth21 and #HungerinOK.

Sept. 19 - 25: Light the City Orange - Light your business or building orange to raise hunger awareness. Oklahoma City’s Skydance Bridge will be lit orange on Sept. 20 in recognition of Hunger Action Month.

Sept. 26 - 30: Voter Registration Week - National Voter Registration Day is Sept. 28. Ask your friends and neighbors if they are registered to vote. Visit ok.gov/election to learn more about voting in Oklahoma.

Those unable to attend a Hunger Action Month event can help fight hunger by donating to the Regional Food Bank. Through Sept. 30, every donation to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Programs is matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $224,000 thanks to the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma, Dolese Bros.
