SXSW Lineup Includes ‘Seeds of Greenwood’

Posted in:

This week, the South by Southwest Festivals in Austin, Texas held a screening and panel discussion for OKCThunder Films’ “Seeds of Greenwood,” during its annual EDU Conference.

A century after the Tulsa Race Massacre, “Seeds of Greenwood” explores how today’s generation is being planted and nurtured within the fertile soil of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District. The film follows the birth of the Thunder’s innovative after-school program, Thunder Fellows, and the inspirational journeys of students in the inaugural class. The Oklahoma City Thunder and CAA Sports developed the concept for Thunder Fellows following the murder of George Floyd and just prior to the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre.

Following the screening, Cedric Ikpo, Thunder Fellows executive director; Dan Mahoney, OKC Thunder Films co-executive producer; and Michael Zubach, “Seeds of Greenwood” director and editor participated in a panel discussion for filmmakers and educators.

OKCThunder Films is a collaboration between the Thunder’s Broadcasting and Basketball Communications departments to bring to life the stories and experiences of the people who make up the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“Seeds of Greenwood” made its debut in June 2022 at Oklahoma City’s dead-Center Film Festival and is now available to view for free on YouTube.
