Summer Reading Program For Teens Kicks Off Thursday

Posted in:

The Seminole Public Library invites area teenagers to participate in a special summer reading program every Thursday throughout the month of June.

“Tails and Tales,” geared to teens between the ages of 13 and 18, will get under way this Thursday, June 3 beginning at 2 p.m. in the library’s conference room. Pre-registration is required at the library’s circulation desk.

“I encourage all local teenagers to join us,” said Library Director Jeanette Kennedy. “It’s going to be a blast. We’ll have tall tales, cool crafts, superb snacks and bodacious books to read.”

The Summer Reading Program is supported in whole or part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services Technology Act, which is administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Seminole Public Library.

Summer reading programs have been around for more than a century, According to the School Library Journal, those who participate in such programs not only mitigate any summer learning loss, but they even show gains. Most kids develop a greater interest in reading, improve their comprehension, and further develop their memory skills.

The Seminole Library is located at 424 N. Main. For more information, call (405) 382-4221 or visit www.seminole.okpls.org.
