Summer Reading Program For Kids Kicks Off Wednesday
The Seminole Public Library invites area kids up to the age of 12 to participate in a special summer reading program every Wednesday throughout the month of June.
“Tails and Tales,” will get underway this Wednesday, June 9 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Seminole Municipal Building,
“I encourage all local children to join us,” said Library Director Jeanette Kennedy. “It’s going to be a blast. We’ll have an extreme animals show, science experiments and more.”
The schedule is as follows:
June 9 – Extreme Animals featuring exotic animals from around the world that kids can actually touch!
June 16 – Denise Gard and Joey (a dog trainer and her BFF)
June 23 – Mad Science (experiments in science)
June 30 – Awards Show with goodies for everyone who reads 25 books or more.
The Summer Reading Program is supported in whole or part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services Technology Act, which is administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Seminole Public Library.
Summer reading programs have been around for more than a century, According to the School Library Journal, those who participate in such programs not only mitigate any summer learning loss, but they even show gains. Most kids develop a greater interest in reading, improve their comprehension, and further develop their memory skills.
