Summer Beer Trends for Oklahomans to Watch

Posted in:

From crisp, lower-calorie beers to cocktails-in-a-can, Oklahomans will have their favorite summer beer staples and exciting new alcoholic beverage options to try this summer. The Oklahoma Beer Alliance, a leading Oklahoma expert on beer trends, has been seeing continued interest in seltzers, non-alcoholic beers, lower-calorie beers and innovative products, as well as interest in products that give back.

“Last summer, we saw an upward trend of consumers purchasing seltzer and lower-calorie options like Michelob Ultra brands, and that trend will continue this summer with more options than ever coming to our state,” said Lisette Barnes, president of the Oklahoma Beer Alliance. “Additionally, Oklahomans will have more variety and selection including fruit-infused beers, cocktails-in-a-can, alcoholic popsicles and the traditional summer staples like Bud Light Lime and Shock Top.”

Oklahomans will be able to enjoy Michelob Ultra Seltzers, Bud Light Seltzers, as well as Cacti Seltzer and CutWater. Both Cacti Seltzer and CutWater are new to Oklahoma this summer. Different from hard seltzers though, CutWater is cocktails-in-a-can, which includes mixes like Tequila Paloma, Long Island Iced Tea, and Rum Mint Mojito. Oklahomans can also enjoy non-alcoholic beers such as Budweiser Zero this summer. All of these options come in cans, which Oklahomans prefer to take when on hikes or for a day on the lake.

Additionally, Oklahoma Beer Alliance members are also bringing alcoholic popsicles to the state. Naturdays Frozen Icicles and Freeze-a-Rita boozy popsicles make the perfect cool treat for poolside gatherings and a day in the sun. Throughout the summer, Oklahomans can enjoy the limited Budweiser Patriotic cans featuring an American flag design that will benefit Folds of Honor scholarships for military families.

“Over the last year, we’ve noticed a shift in consumer purchasing toward lower-calorie beers and non-alcoholic beverages,” said Barnes. “Our beer distributor members serve all 77 counties and are working to deliver these new options across the state for Memorial Day Weekend and throughout the summer. These new varieties will accommodate various lifestyles and taste preferences, and we anticipate these trends will continue to grow this summer.”

As Oklahomans embrace a more normal summer, the Oklahoma Beer Alliance and its beer distributor members urge all Oklahomans to consume alcohol responsibly and in moderation.
