Student Allegedly Pens Threat Against Seminole Middle School

Posted in:

A written threat was made against Seminole Middle School on Wednesday, resulting in a student’s removal from campus.

The nature of the threat and the student’s name was not released, but the district released a statement regarding the incident Wednesday afternoon.

“On the afternoon of January 17, 2024, school officials were made aware of a written threat made by a student directed toward Seminole Middle School. Once aware of the threat, action was taken immediately. Law enforcement was immediately present. The student has been removed from the middle school premises. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to fully investigate this threat. Working together, we are building a safer learning environment for our students,” the statement read.

A similar incident occurred last fall at the high school. On Sept. 19, 2023, school officials were made aware of a threat made by a student directed at the school. After an investigation, the threat was deemed non-credible, but the student was banned from campus. According to the school district, that incident was reported to officials by students. In April 2022 a social media post that threatened gun violence against resulted in a district-wide closure for one day. The same week, a 13-year-old male was allegedly responsible for making a verbal threat at Varnum Schools. He was apprehended then released to the custody of his parents. School threats and acts of violence have made headlines in Oklahoma recently. In August, multiple bomb threats were made against Union Public Schools in Tulsa and in Choctaw, a teenager was shot and killed at a football game. The Choctaw incident led to schools across the state adopting new security protocol for entrance to sporting events.
