Strother School Board Election Slated April 4
Voters in the Strother School District in Seminole County will take to the polls Tuesday, April 4 to fill a seat on the Board of Education.
Two candidates, incumbent Tami J. Shelton and Dustin Hogue, are on the ballot. Shelton currently serves as board president. There are no other school board elections in Seminole County this election cycle, as board members in the remaining nine districts did not draw challengers and kept their seats by default.
While no school board seats are at stake, voters in the Seminole School District will face a bond election on April 4. On the ballot is a $510,000 proposal for the purposes of upgrading playgrounds and outdoor learning spaces, including bringing them up to safety and accessibility standards. The term of the bond is five years. According to Superintendent Dr. Bob Gragg, current tax rates will not go up if the proposal passes, as the same millage rate voters agreed to in the 2017 bond election will be maintained.
The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot for both elections is Monday, March 20. Early voting will be available March 30-31 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Seminole County Courthouse in Wewoka.
Polls will be open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on election day. Refer to your voter ID card to find your polling place, or call the Seminole County Election Board at (405) 2572786. Voter information is also available on the State Election Board website (www. oklahoma. gov/elections).
