Stolen Gun, Knives Uncovered During Traffic Stop
A routine traffic stop resulted in the capture of three juvenile suspects shortly after a vehicle was reported burglarized, according to a Seminole Police Department incident report. An alleged stolen gun and a set of stolen knives was recovered by police during the stop.
According to the report, on Saturday, July 24 at approximately 9:57 a.m. Seminole Police Officer Steffan Jasna was running stationary radar at the intersection of Boren Boulevard and Reid Avenue when he clocked a vehicle traveling southbound on Boren traveling 67 mph in a 40-mph zone. When Jasna activated his emergency lights the vehicle turned east on Reid at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle struck the curb and lost the front tire, which continued rolling east on Reid, leaving the vehicle disabled. The driver, later identified as a juvenile, exited the vehicle and ran chasing the tire. After parking behind the vehicle Jasna was running the tag number when the front and back passenger doors opened, and two other juveniles were identified.
Dispatch informed Jasna that the vehicle had allegedly been involved in the burglary of a vehicle on Spurr Street. All three juveniles were placed in handcuffs and advised they were being detained. The officer was informed the only thing the victim realized was missing from the burglarized vehicle was two knives in a case with NWTF on the sheaf. Jasna observed the knives in the back seat, so the victim was contacted and appeared at the scene a short time later to retrieve his property.
The front door had been left open when the driver jumped out to retrieve the tire. While looking in the vehicle the officer observed what appeared to be a black, small-caliber handgun and retrieved it. Officer Rick Amos arrived and began patting down the juveniles when one attempted but failed to flee on foot. A small caliber pistol was allegedly found in his right pants pocket. During a search of the vehicle a fanny pack was found containing a 9MM handgun that had been reported stolen by a member of the Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police Department on June 21.
A citation for speeding was issued to the driver. Two of the juveniles were members of the Seminole Nation, so they were turned over to a Lighthorse Officer. The remaining juvenile was released to the custody of his mother with a promise to appear in the juvenile services office the next Monday.
