Stolen Checks Presented at Local Bank; Suspect Jailed
A Haskell County man was arrested last week after he allegedly tried to use stolen checks and a stolen driver’s license at a Seminole bank.
Jeremy Lane Gore, 32, of Keota, was arrested March 16 and charged with two felonies, including attempted forgery in the second degree. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer. The charges were filed by the Seminole County District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
According to an affidavit, Corporal Logan Gray of the Seminole Police Department responded to Security State Bank on reports that a man was attempting to use a stolen license and stolen checks at the bank’s drivethrough.
Gray spotted a tan Nissan in the lane the suspect was using then initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle identified himself as Roy Gore and three occupants identified themselves as Cheridan Edwards, David Sneed and Julia Clower. Gray had dispatch run all the names for active warrants and made contact with Police Chief Jon Withers as he waited on the results.
A bank employee had told Withers that the driver of the Nissan was using a stolen driver’s license and had forged the owner’s name onto some checks. The employee said she personally knew the theft victim.
Edwards and Sneed were arrested at the scene on active warrants out of Pottawatomie County, but the name “Roy Gore” did not return any results. After being placed under arrest, Gore told Gray that his real name was Jeremy Gore. A system check revealed that Gore also had an active warrant out of Pottawatomie County.
Gray later contacted the bank teller who handled the transaction, and was told that on March 12, a man came through her drive-through lane and presented a check to be cashed. The man identified himself as R.O. (initials used for privacy), but she knew it was not R.O. She told Gray that the same man had returned on March 16 with a check that had R.O.’s name forged on it as well as a driver’s license that belonged to R.O. In a follow-up interview with Gray, R.O. confirmed that his wallet had been stolen.
According to court records, Gore was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in 2019, to which he entered a plea of no contest and received a two-year suspended sentence. Gore is due back in court on April 1 for a status hearing.
