SPS Bond Election, Other Local Races Slated Today

Posted in:

Many voters in Seminole County, depending on where they live, will take to the polls today (Tuesday, April 4) in three separate elections.

Patrons of the Seminole School District will face a $510,000 bond election for the purposes of upgrading playgrounds and outdoor learning spaces, including bringing them up to safety and accessibility standards. The term of the bond is five years. According to Superintendent Dr. Bob Gragg, current tax rates will not go up if the proposal passes, as the same millage rate voters agreed to in the 2017 bond election will be maintained. Voters in the Strother School District will vote to fill a seat on the Board of Education. Two candidates, incumbent Tami J. Shelton and Dustin Hogue, are on the ballot. Shelton currently serves as board president.

Maud voters will cast ballots for mayor, city council and school board seats. Those running for mayor include Ed Whitefield, Ben Fox, Russell Dillon, Virginia Stephens, and Jimmy Wade Porterfield. Bobby G. Shatto and Bob Watson are seeking the Ward Two City Council seat (unexpired term) and Chad Edward Votaw and Larry Barker are vying for the Ward Three seat. Carolyn Bassett and John R. Tredway are on the ballot for the number 3 seat on the school board.

Polls will be open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. today. Refer to your voter ID card to find your polling place, or call the Seminole County Election Board at (405) 2572786. Voter information is also available on the State Election Board website (www.oklahoma.gov/elections).
