Felony charges have been filed against a man who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase that spanned two counties.

Lee Charles Ruston, 25, of Ada was arrested last week following a pursuit that began on Highway 377 in Seminole and ended on Interstate 40 near the Shawnee Mall.

A felony charge of aggravated endangering others while eluding was filed against Ruston on Feb. 2 by the Seminole County District Attorney’s Office.

According to an affidavit, on Jan. 26, Lt. Michael Mason of the Seminole Police Department was patrolling the area of Highway 377 and Good Hope Road when a vehicle passed him at a “very high” rate of speed.

Mason activated his emergency lights and gave pursuit, using visual and audible signals for the driver to pull over, which were ignored.

The vehicle continued traveling northbound on 377 and passed several vehicles at speeds of up to 110 miles per hour.

“The vehicle then came to the intersection of I-40 and U.S. 377, at which time I observed the vehicle to fail to stop at the posted stop sign while citizens were stationary at the intersection,” Mason stated in the affidavit.

Ruston began traveling westbound on I-40 with Mason still in pursuit, passing several vehicles closely while Mason used his public address system in attempts to get Ruston to pull over. Central Dispatch contacted Pottawatomie County authorities and apprised them of the situation.

According to the affidavit, Ruston finally pulled over near exit 186 and was ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint by Mason.

Mason said he asked Ruston what he was doing, and, according to the affidavit, Ruston replied that his “old lady” had called him and he needed to get to her location. Mason asked Ruston several times who he was referring to, but he refused to answer.

Ruston was placed under arrest for reckless driving and eluding while endangering. Corporal Logan Gray transported Ruston to the Seminole County Jail where he was booked without incident and the vehicle was impounded.

According to court documents, bond was set at $10,000 and a status hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 18.
