SHS Alumni Association Accepting HOF Nominations
The Seminole High School Alumni Association is currently taking candidate applications for the Seminole High School Alumni Association’s Hall of Fame, Class of 2023.
Each year, the Alumni Association plans events centered around SHS Football Homecoming such as the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and All-Class Reunion. This year, Homecoming and Alumni Weekend is Sept. 29-30.
The SHS Alumni Association has only inducted three percent of the students who have walked the halls of SHS since its establishment in 1912. The Association has made a few improvements to the Hall of Fame in the hopes of making it more competitive. There are no longer categories and a student/athlete’s entire high school resume is used in determining selection.
To qualify for the SHS Hall of Fame, the candidate must be a graduate of Seminole High School or Booker T. Washington High School, except in the case of extenuating circumstances such as military service, illness, or family relocation. The candidate must also be at least 10 years removed from high school and have recognizable leadership qualities, during the high school years, exhibited by excellence in extra-curricular activities such as Salutatorian, Valedictorian, All-State, All-District, State Champion, Student Council and various other organizations.
For a candidate to qualify as a Special/ Friend of SHS or Teacher/Administrator, it is not necessary that the individual be a graduate. However, the individual must demonstrate actions that merit special recognition for involvement with Seminole High School and, in the case of a teacher/administrator, be retired, served at least 15 years at their respective school or a former teacher at Seminole Public Schools or Booker T. Washington.
Nomination forms are available online at www. seminolealumni.com. The Alumni Association must receive nomination forms no later than April 9, 2023 to be considered for induction in the 2023 class.
The SHS Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at the Kelly Haney Center, located on the Seminole State College campus, on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at 3:30 p.m.
In addition to the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the Alumni Association will hold its annual All-Class Reunion at the Reynolds Wellness Center. The All-Class Reunion features music, dancing, a cash bar, food, and much, much more. Tickets will be available in advance of all events. Individual classes are encouraged to reserve tables at the All-Class Reunion.
The SHS Alumni Association is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that funds projects for Seminole Public Schools and provides scholarships to deserving high school seniors each year.
