Seminole Rotary Club Carries on Tradition of Pre-game Hamburgers
A local civic club’s long-standing tradition of serving up freshly grilled hamburgers to football fans at the first home game of the season will continue this Friday evening.
Members of the Seminole Rotary Club will be firing up grills and serving hamburgers this Friday night, Aug. 27 prior to the Seminole Chieftains’ home-opener against Trinity Christian of Texas.
The 35th Annual Rotary Hamburger Supper starts at around 5:30 and will continue up until game time. The group will be set up just inside the east gates to the stadium. Grilled hamburgers (500 of them with all the fixins’) will be served for donations to the Rotary Club.
The event is a fundraiser for the local organization. Money raised is used to offset expenses for the Annual Earl Knowles Christmas Dinner, which is provided free of charge to area citizens at the Heritage House. Each year, between 700 and 800 people are fed a full-course luncheon on Christmas Day, with around 200 of those being delivered to homebound individuals.
In addition to the Christmas dinner, the Rotary Club stages the annual Bob Davis Memorial Pancake Breakfast at the beginning of each year, donates backpacks for children in shelters and awards scholarships to local students.
Current officers for the Seminole Rotary Club are Anthony Davidson, President; Chris Moore, President-elect; Amy Britt, Treasurer and Shirlene Davidson, Treasurer.
