Seminole Public Schools Make Good Use of Temporary High School Building

Posted in:

Seminole Public Schools are in the process of converting the building formerly used as a temporary high school into office space for administration. They bought the building from the Seminole Area Community Development department by way of a lease purchase in April of 2018. The purchase was for a total of $900,000, which Seminole Public Schools has agreed to pay out through a 12-year agreement of 144 payments. As of right now, 25 of those payments have been made.

Although the school’s administration workers are the only ones currently utilizing the space, they are hoping to change that in the future. According to Superintendent Dr. Bob Gragg, they are working to convert some of the building’s classrooms into areas suitable for state testing to be conducted. Eventually, Gragg says, they hope the space can, “bring functions of a district together that needed to be together.”

This would mean making the building a suitable area for faculty to complete their professional development as well as a space for Seminole Public School’s special education department to use as a base. Alongside these plans for the inside of the building, they are hoping to make use of the outside as well. The school hopes to use the parking lot as a space for their buses to park and possibly as an overflow parking space during football games in the future, Gragg states. They have also considered placing Seminole’s Alternative Education program there eventually. Most of these plans were sidelined during the spring 2020 semester, due to the COVID-19 chaos, but Seminole Public Schools are certainly still working toward making them a reality.
