Seminole County Experiences Third Death from COVID-19
Seminole County has experienced an additional death due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the latest report from the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). This was the first death from COVID-19 in Seminole County since the May 1 report from the OSDH. That brings the countywide total to 30 confirmed positive cases, including three deaths and 22 recoveries.
The latest death in the county was a male resident of the City of Seminole in the 65 and older age group that died between June 4 and June 8. Seminole has seen 13 confirmed positive cases, two deaths and 10 recoveries. The county seat of Wewoka has reported 13 positive cases and nine recoveries; Konawa has experienced three confirmed positive cases, one death and two recoveries; and Sasakwa had one confirmed case and one recovery.
Eight residents or staff members at long-term care facilities and nursing homes have tested positive in the county. All eight were attributed to Elmwood Manor Nursing Home in Wewoka, and all eight cases recovered. As of June 9, there have been 1,529 cases of COVID-19 in nursing homes around the state and 191 deaths.
There have been 7,480 total confirmed positive cases in the state of Oklahoma, including 355 deaths and 6,166 recoveries, as of June 10. The average age of a confirmed positive case in Oklahoma is 48 years old and the average age of those who are deceased from the virus is 75 years old.
Nationwide, the United States has experienced 1.979 million cases, 111,989 deaths and 524,855 recoveries as of June 9, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
COVID-19 testing is open to anyone in the state, as people no longer need to exhibit symptoms to be tested for the virus. The Seminole County Health Department is testing for COVID-19 by appointment only at 900 Boren Boulevard in Seminole. Contact (405) 382-4369 to schedule a testing appointment.
