Seminole County December 2020 Sales Tax Revenue Report
The December sales tax report was released earlier this week by the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) and showed six cities in Seminole County with a yearover-year increase in sales tax revenue.
December’s distribution of sales tax collections by the OTC primarily represents local tax receipts from November business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to pay electronically.
The monies they reported this period represented sales from October 16-31 and estimated sales from November 1-15.
The state saw an decrease of $4.83 million in December 2020 from distributions in December.
Total collections in Seminole County came to $635,774.12, which includes all collections from cities in the county plus the county sales tax collected over that period. That total represents a 11.65% increase from the $569,444.40 reported in 2019.
Bowlegs pulled in $2,379.78 in sales tax revenue for July 2020 compared to $1,970.70 in the previous year.
Cromwell saw an increase of 91.08% from one year to the next, raising $4,566.94 in 2020 compared to $2,390.08 in 2019.
Konawa saw collections increase from $25,095.04 in 2019 to $35,212.37 in 2020, an increase of 40.32% from the previous year.
In the portion of Maud inside Seminole County, the city raised $7,981.57 in sales tax monies, an decrease of 10.33% from the $8,901.15 reported over the same period in 2019.
Sasakwa saw a decrease in the sales tax monies made from the previous year. Sasakwa’s sales tax receipts dropped from $1,312.23 in 2019 to $1,127.41 in 2020.
Seminole experienced a 17% increase in sales tax revenue from the previous year. The city collected $514,107.94 in 2020 after pulling in $472,150.67 in 2019. Monies collected in Seminole represent 80.86% of the revenue raised countywide, including the Seminole County sales tax.
Wewoka, the county seat, had an increase in sales tax monies collected from the previous year, raising $70,401.11 in July 2020. That total is 18.15% greater than the $57,624.53 generated over the previous year’s reporting period.
The Seminole County sales tax totaled $258,533.18 for the reported month, which is a decrease of 1.45% from $262,349.04 in the previous year.
Five of the six nearby cities reported received more in sales tax revenue than in the previous year.
Ada pulled in $1.345 million, which is an increase of 2.9% from the $1.307 million raised in 2019.
Earlsboro received $13,358.13 from the OTC, a decrease of 36.5% from $20,474.35 in December 2019. It was the a nearby city to experience a big loss compared to the previous year’s sales tax collections.
Holdenville collected $235,206.16 for the month, which was more than the $221,695.30 raised in Decemeber 2019. The total represents a 6.25% increase.
The city of Okemah raised $111,772.86, a 14.3% increase from $97,789.93 in the previous year.
Prague saw sales tax revenue rise to $118,476.78 after raising $93,890.63 in the preceding December, a difference of 26.19%.
Shawnee raised $1.85 million in December 2020 compared to 2019’s $2.09 million. The difference represents a 11.3% decrease.
The largest cities by population in Oklahoma once again saw decreases in sales tax revenue as the economy was most impacted in the biggest cities. Oklahoma City pulled in $33.162 million, which was 9.65% less than the $36.704 million the city pulled in the previous year.
Tulsa raised $22.431 million for December 2020, a 8.38% decrease from the $24.481 million raised over the same period in 2019. Those tax monies represent the highest two totals for sales tax receipts in the state.
Four cities in Seminole County also reported use tax income for December 2020. All four cities saw large increases in use tax monies compared to the previous year. The Seminole County use tax totaled $34,483.27 in December 2020 compared to $27,688.91 in December 2019, a 24.54% increase.
Konawa saw use tax revenue increase to $10,862.21 from $4,666.72 in the previous reporting period, a 132.76% year-over-year increase.
Maud’s use tax in Seminole County decreased from $521.62 in 2019 to $505.09 in 2020.
Seminole pulled in $52,144.42 in use tax over the reporting period after receiving $39,254.53 in the previous year, a 32.84% increase.
Wewoka saw use tax revenue decrease 38.9% to $11,449.96, from the $18,739.24 collected in the previous year.
