Sales Tax Receipts Down Slightly, Use Tax up in Seminole
May sales tax receipts were down slightly from one year ago for the City of Seminole but use tax revenue was up significantly, the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) reported this week.
According to the OTC, the city received a sales tax distribution this month of $469,655.05, down six percent from July 2020 when the amount was $501,454.62. The city’s use tax disbursement of $62,878.76 was up 28 percent over the $49,087.75 it received at this time last year. Use tax is collected when goods are purchased from out of state – online or otherwise – then used within Oklahoma.
Seminole County reported increases in both sales and use tax revenue. The county received a use tax distribution of $38,974.49, up 17 percent over July 2020’s amount of $33,125.06. The county’s sales tax disbursement of $240,773.38 represented a nearly one percent increase over last year.

The July distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from May business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from May 16- 31 and estimated sales from June 1 - 15.
