Restoration of Boomtown Playground Topic of Thursday’s Chamber Forum
The restoration of Seminole’s Boomtown Playground located in the municipal park will be the featured program at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum Thursday, March 9. The luncheon meeting will be held at noon at Seminole State College in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center.
“Boomtown Rebuild” is a project to address problems with the unique wooden playground built in 2007. The original construction was done as a “Leathers Playground” which coordinated the community-led construction over several days.
The playground is in disrepair from the aging of the wooden structures. A committee of community leaders has been leading a charge to have a new playground designed and money raised for construction.
Committee Chair Tara Geist said the playground has been “wellloved” over its lifetime and needs attention due to safety and appearance issues. She is joined on the committee by Marci Donaho, Tyler Geohagan, Krista Jones, Travis Reynolds, Claudia Willis and Ernie Willis.
Geist will be sharing information on the history of the playground and plans for future rebuild at Thursday’s Forum. She will be presenting a video detailing the “hope” for the look of the new playground Geist will also discuss options the committee is exploring to raise funds for the project.
An initial meeting to discuss the renovation was held last July at the Wellness Center and in December, a fundraising auction was held at 737 Duck Calls in Seminole.
The Chamber forum is open to the public. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.
