Public Invited to Senior Day at The State Capitol Feb. 27

Posted in:

Oklahomans are invited to the 2023 “Senior Day at the Capitol,” being held Monday, Feb. 27 at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.

The annual event is a chance for Oklahoma’s seniors and their advocates to discuss the needs of Oklahomans age 60 and older. The event is free and open to the public. Registration must be completed at okallianceonaging.org.

This year’s theme is “Hear Our Voices.” Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor rotunda of the Capitol. The program starts at 10 a.m. in the House Chambers and will feature elected officials and Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) representatives.

Following the program, attendees will have the opportunity to visit with lawmakers to voice their concerns, ideas and needs. Nonprofit and government agencies will be on site to distribute information about their services.

The emcee for this year’s event will be Oklahoma Ombudsman Rebekah Williams, who has been a strong advocate in the aging industry for over 18 years. For the last 8 years, Williams has been an Ombudsman based out of the Southern Oklahoma Developing Association in Durant. She is currently appointed to the role of Ombudsman Systems Advocate and Liaison where she works as a face and voice with lawmakers and agencies to represent the residents of long-term care facilities across Oklahoma.
