Property Owners Urged to Report Winter Storm Damage
If your property damages in last week’s winter storms, you are urged to report it immediately to the Oklahoma Department Emergency Management and Homeland Security (ODEMHS).
“We are requesting all Oklahoma residents who suffered winter storm damages to please report online at damage.ok.gov,” ODEMHS Director Mark Gower said Friday in a press release. “Reporting damage as soon as possible will greatly assist our ability to request additional federal assistance for the state as we recover from this historic storm.”
President Joe Biden last week approved an emergency declaration for the entire state of Oklahoma, making federal funds available to state, local, tribal and territorial governments for storm recovery, but individual assistance has not yet been approved. Individual assistance helps homeowners, renters and business owners with storm-related damages.
“The state will have to meet a minimum damage threshold before it can qualify for individual assistance, so please report your damage,” said Ernie Willis, Emergency Management Director for the City of Seminole.
Those on rural water systems are also urged to report any property damages to authorities.
“Any and all damage sustained from the storms must be reported,” said Oklahoma Rural Water Association Deputy CEO Jimmy Seago. “It is critical for us to provide a thorough and damage so we can qualify for the proper level of federal assistance as we look ahead when restoring and rebuilding our state’s water and wastewater infrastructure.”
Through the online damage assessment survey, residents and business owners can report winter storm-specific impacts including: Flooding from broken pipes, power surges that caused damage to furnaces, electrical systems, or major appliances; number of days without water, gas, or electricity; number of days displaced by the winter storm and injuries sustained as a result of the winter storm.
Oklahomans can report damage to homes, businesses or agriculture through the online survey at damage.ok.gov.
