Officials Say Trash Will Not be Picked up When Polycarts Rules Are Not Followed by Customers

Posted in:

The Waste Corporation of America (WCA) site manager sent pictures to Seminole Public Works Director Bryant Baker of several polycarts that were not within the rules and regulations of regular trash pickup this week. The pictures had overflowing trash in the polycarts with many of the items not bagged.

WCA rules state the following about regular pick up:

All items must be bagged.

Residents are allowed three extra bags of trash that can be sat beside the polycart on pick up day.

Do not overfill the polycarts.

According to city officials, when residents do not follow the rules and regulations, WCA will not pick up the trash which then causes a multitude of problems for the residents, their neighbors, The City and WCA. When trash is left on the curb too long residents are often ticketed for junk and debris.

WCA asks that all trash be bagged because the unbagged trash gets blown away in the wind and creates litter. This is just part of the problem with litter, not only in Seminole, but across America.

“No one can control the wind and how it blows trash around… not us, not WCA, and not the citizens of Seminole. A couple of ways we can help avoid this is by making sure all trash is in bags, and making sure polycart lids are closed,” Baker said.

“There may be other issues with trash and litter, but we believe if everyone does their part to help out, we can work together to make Seminole brighter,” City Manager Steve Saxon said.

Other options for trash are to use bulk trash that is offered once a month as a service to City of Seminole residents or use Sooner Landfill at Wewoka. Residents may take their own garbage/refuse to Sooner Landfill once per month with their most current water bill. There will be a $5.00 fee for a vest. The name on the water bill must match the person’s license that takes the trash. Garbage/refuse will not exceed 3 cubic feet. Please call ahead, (405) 257-6108.
