President of Local Bank Branch Arrested
A local bank president was arrested several weeks ago and although official records have not yet been released, here’s what we know:
William R. “Billy” Norton, President of First United Bank in Seminole, was arrested on or about April 18.
According to Jailbirds magazine, Norton was booked into the Seminole County Jail on a complaint of lewd or indecent acts or proposals to a child. Although his mugshot was published in the magazine, it was either never published on the Seminole County Sheriff’s website or it was posted then taken down quickly. The Producer reached out Thursday to Sheriff Anthony Louie and asked why Norton’s mugshot was not on his office’s website but was made available to Jailbirds.
“That’s odd. I’ll have to look into it,” Louie said.
District Attorney Erik Johnson said Thursday that “very little” information was available to share with the media, and the case was still under investigation. Johnson added that a probable cause affidavit had been submitted to the court, and provided a judge doesn’t seal it, it should eventually be available.
The Producer on Thursday emailed Greg Massey, First United’s Chief Executive Officer, seeking comment and inquiring if Norton was still employed by the bank. As of press time Friday, no response had been received. Several photos of Norton, taken both inside the bank and out in the community, were still on the bank’s social media page as of Friday morning.
According to social media posts by Norton’s wife, the couple’s Seminole house and a commercial building owned by his wife have been listed for sale.
Norton is also on the board of the Seminole State College Educational Foundation and is active with the Seminole Chamber of Commerce.
Detective Chris Ayers of the Seminole Police confirmed Norton’s arrest and although he did not elaborate, said Norton was due in Seminole County District Court at 1 p.m. on June 6.
Norton has been employed with First United Seminole since October of 2016.
