One Dead, One Injured in Shooting Near Konawa

Posted in:

A Seminole County woman is dead and a man was hospitalized after a double shooting that happened near Konawa early Tuesday evening. Just after 7:30 p.m. on July

27, authorities responded to reports of a shooting on Sacred Heart Road, two miles south of Highway 59.

A Pottawatomie County man, who spoke to the Seminole Producer on the condition of anonymity, said he and his wife discovered the female victim near a vehicle on the side of the road with a gunshot wound to her head. He identified her as Heather Sharber of Konawa.

“We called 9-1-1 and my wife held the victim and prayed with her while we waited for authorities to arrive,” the man said. “She was still alive at that time. She was making sounds, but not talking.”

Sharber was reportedly taken to the Seminole Hospital where she later died from her wounds. The male victim, who some sources say was the one who shot Sharber, was taken to the OU Medical Center and his injuries were not life-threatening, according to reports.

Sharber had reportedly been arguing with her ex-husband, who multiple sources have identified as Richard Brazell, through text messages and later received a phone call from her aunt saying the ex-husband was “messed up” and was out to harm Sharber.

Brazell was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in 2009 in the death of William Jeffery Rutherford. He was sentenced to five years in prison with all but one year suspended. That shooting occurred west of Sacred Heart Church, located about nine miles east of Asher.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department responded to Tuesday’s incident and requested the assistance of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
