The Oklahoma National Guard is mourning the loss of retired Lt. Col. Darrell Jones, who passed away Monday, March 27, 2023.

“Our hearts are with the Jones family, including his son, Sgt. Anthony Jones, who is a current-serving member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas H. Mancino, adjutant general for Oklahoma. “Darrell was an integral part of our organization and loved by many. He will be dearly missed.”

Lt. Col. Darrell Jones enlisted as an infantryman in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1975 and commissioned as a second lieutenant from the OKARNG’s Officer Candidate Program in 1980.

Jones served in a variety of positions throughout his career, from company commander, operations and training officer, to surface maintenance division chief. He retired in 2013 after nearly 40 years of service, much of which as a full-time technician.

His awards include Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, located at 220 North 1st Street in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
