Officials Remind Property Owners To Report Winter Storm Damages

Posted in:

If your property suffered damages in last month’s winter storms, you are urged to report it to the Oklahoma Department Emergency Management and Homeland Security (ODEMHS).

Several counties in Oklahoma have been approved for individual assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), but Seminole County has not met the threshold to qualify for funding.

Federal officials have asked local authorities to encourage residents of undeclared counties, such as Seminole County, to report their damages and include pictures.

“Doing so helps additional counties get added to the declaration,” emergency officials said. “FEMA is validating information submitted by the public and using it to justify adding counties to the declaration.”

Those on rural water systems are also urged to report any property damages to authorities.

Through the online damage assessment survey, residents and business owners can report winter storm-specific impacts including: Flooding from broken pipes, power surges that caused damage to furnaces, electrical systems, or major appliances; number of days without water, gas, or electricity; number of days displaced by the winter storm and injuries sustained as a result of the winter storm.

Oklahomans can report damage to homes, businesses or agriculture through the online survey at damage.ok.gov.

President Joe Biden last month approved an emer gency declaration for the entire state of Oklahoma, making federal funds available to state, local, tribal and territorial governments for storm recovery.
