Not Tech Savvy? Call 211 For Vaccine Help

Posted in:

The State of Oklahoma recently rolled out an online portal for scheduling COVID-19 vaccination appointments, but the hightech move has left some people frustrated.

The state is in the midst of its vaccination program and the only way to schedule an appointment is through the portal, which is compatible with both computers and smartphones. But not everyone has internet access or a mobile device and others, like 79-year-old Leon Hager, aren’t tech savvy at all.

“What are folks like me supposed to do?” asked Hager, a lifelong resident of Seminole County. “I’m supposedly in the most vulnerable category, and I don’t know how to get on the internet to schedule an appointment. I’m stressed out over this.”

According to the Seminole County Health Department, those with no internet access, a smartphone or internet skills should simply dial 2-1-1 for help with scheduling an appointment.

Another option, the health department says, is to seek help with registering for the vaccine from a friend or family member.

Currently, only Oklahomans aged 65 and up, as well as healthcare workers and first responders are eligible to schedule an appointment for the vaccine, but anyone can preregister. Those not in the current vaccination phase who put their information in the system will be notified when vaccine appointments become available.

The health department notes that vaccine eligibility does not guarantee an appointment, as appointments depend solely on each county’s vaccine supply.
