Not Following Bulk Trash Rules Can Cause Problems, City Says
The City of Seminole says that although three days per month are designated for bulk trash collection, not everything can be picked up because, in some cases, the rules are not being followed.
“Bulk trash has limits, and when the rules and regulations are not followed, the bulk trash is not picked up, which causes problems for the residents, their neighbors, the city, and Waste Corporation of America (WCA). When bulk trash is left on the curb too long residents are often ticketed for junk and debris,” city officials said in a statement released last week.
Below are the rules and regulations for bulk trash, which is picked up on the second full week of each month, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Items must be to the curb by 7 a.m.
- Bulk waste can only be three cubic yards (example: a level pickup bed load).
- Limbs must be tied in 3ft x 3ft bundles.
- No loose items (loose items must be bagged or in a sealed disposable container).
- No oil, antifreeze, paint, batteries, poisons, or hazardous items.
- Appliances must have freon evacuated. - No tires.
- No items to exceed 75 pounds.
Rules and regulations are accessible on the city’s website under the water department’s page. Other information such as a map of WCA’s regular trash route and bulk trash route is included on the page.
“The city appreciates those that are making effort to clean up their property and encourages all Seminole citizens to continue to clean or maintain their property. If bulk trash is not enough for a resident’s garbage, there are other options,” officials said.
Every week residents can set three bags of trash outside of their garbage bins, but it must be bagged in order for it to be picked up. Residents may also take their own garbage/refuse to the landfill at Wewoka once per month with their most current water bill and there will be a $5 fee for a vest. Garbage/refuse cannot not exceed three cubic feet. The landfill asks that residents call them at (405) 257-6108 ahead of their visit.
Those with questions, problems, or concerns with trash pick up, are asked to call the water department at (405) 382-0518, ext. 101.
