Nonprofit Group Provides Way to Help Needy With Heating Expenses

Posted in:

With the recent bitterly cold weather conditions, many people in the Seminole area may find themselves unable to pay their heating bills, and yet others have no source of heat at all.

If you would like to help someone out with heating costs, donations may be made directly to the Seminole Community Foundation. Deposits are accepted at Security State Bank, located at 824 N. Milt Phillips.

Officials with the City of Seminole said several people have contacted them recently about rewarding city employees for their work during the winter storms, but they would rather see the money go to help those in need.

“This foundation is local and 100% of the donations go where they are directed,” the city posted on social media. “This is in response to well-meaning efforts to buy rewards for the city employees that respond to the needy who may be without adequate heat. We sincerely appreciate the praise, but we would rather focus on solving this heartbreaking issue with your generosity.”

The Seminole Community Foundation is an Oklahoma domestic not-for-profit corporation which is involved in the city’s annual “Snowman Wonderland” project, the Seminole Hall of Fame and community development programs.
