New Lima Elementary celebrated “Read Across America” week this past week.
Eighteen volunteers, made up of community, faculty, staff, and students read to students throughout the week in the library, classrooms, gym, softball, and baseball fields.
New Lima three year olds enjoyed hearing Jordan Bumgarner read about Color Days and emotions. Mr. Darrell Brown read, “How Mr. Brown Can Moo!” and Coach Weaver read “Fox and Socks.”
the Hat” and Mrs. Nita Moreland read all about the “Tooth and Foot” books.
Second grade students enjoyed hearing Shelly Brown read “And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street” and “Hooper Humperdink...? Not Him!”
Mrs. Spears turned “Horton Hears a Who” into a play read by many of the 3rd graders. Awesome Dr. Seuss books adults grew up with like “Green Eggs and Ham”, were enjoyed through the breakfast line and read to the 4th grade. Even coaches and administration were able to share some rhymes that make reading fun.
Coach Neill, Coach Marchbanks, and Mr. Amos also read a “Many Colored Days” to the upper level students. A favorite book that introduces science and our environment to kids called “The Lorax” was read by Thomas Gates.
