Mayoral Appointment To Council Met With Unanimous Approval

Dana Miller is officially the newest member of the Seminole City Council, replacing Ward 1 Councilman Bill Wantland, who did not seek reelection in February.

Miller’s mayoral appointment to the post was met with unanimous council approval Tuesday evening, and she was sworn into office immediately so she could vote on agenda items.

“I am enthusiastic to serve the City of Seminole and Ward One with a focus on collaborative governance and deliberative progressive efforts,” Miller said.

Miller has served the state of Oklahoma through the Oklahoma Health Care Authority since 2006 as the Director of Tribal Government Relations. She says her professional experience has allowed her to propose and implement innovative strategies that have led to effective policy and best practices. Miller has been recognized nationally for efforts to address health care disparities.

Upon graduating from Pleasant Grove High School in 1993, Miller earned an Associate’s Degree from Seminole State College in 1999 then obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2001.

Miller is a “proud mother” to Jake Tiger, an actor, model and Seminole historian, and Jagger Tiger, a sophomore at Varnum High School. She is married to Billy, a Seminole Nation employee.

As a tribal citizen, Miller said she is committed to her Seminole and Ojibwe culture including history and education. She has served on the Seminole Humane Society board for several years and enjoys assisting “the four-legged folks.”

Miller said she is also passionate about progressive community growth and creating opportunities for citizens to thrive and achieve success.
