Man Seriously Injured in Motorcycle vs. SUV Crash
A Wewoka man was seriously injured when his motorcycle collided with an SUV in northern Seminole County early Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), 65-year-old Johnny Murray was driving a motorcycle westbound on Highway 99-A between Little and Cromwell when a Ford Escape entered the highway from NS 3600 Road. The driver of the Escape, identified as Gwendolyn Blake-Bacon (SIC), 73, of Seminole, allegedly failed to yield from the stop sign, resulting in the motorcycle striking the rear driver’s side door of the Escape, which is a compact SUV.
Murray was transported by Air-Evac to the OU Medical Center, where he was admitted in serious condition with head, trunk internal, trunk, external, arm and leg injuries. According to the OHP report, Murray was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Bacon was uninjured and refused treatment at scene. She was wearing her seatbelt and the vehicle’s equipped airbags were deployed in the collision, according to the report.
The crash happened at about 1:39 p.m. approximately eight miles west of Cromwell. The condition of both drivers was reported by the OHP as “apparently normal” and the cause of the crash was listed as “failure to yield from a stop sign.”
The accident was investigated by Trooper Brad Stuteville #711 of the Seminole County detachment of Troop D. Assistance was provided by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
