Man Kidnapped, Beaten, Left Naked on Rural Road
A local man was kidnapped, beaten, robbed and left naked on a rural road near Varnum High School Tuesday afternoon, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
Quintrez Edwards, 26, was arrested on charges of robbery/attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping and criminal probable cause warrants. Sierra Harjo, 26, faces conspiracy charges and 31-year-old Derek Pickett is facing conspiracy and false personation charges. All three suspects have Holdenville addresses.
According to Det. Chris Ayers of the Seminole Police Department, the kidnapping was reported via a 911 call at about 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday. The caller told the operator that their brother-in-law had been kidnapped by two males traveling in a black Chevy pickup. The vehicle was headed east on Wrangler Boulevard from the Julian Wood Clinic, the caller said.
Ayers said police responded to the area but did not sight a vehicle matching the description reported by the 911 caller, but later learned the vehicle was actually a Chevy Avalanche. Officer Gabe Wind located the Avalanche in the Ideal/Short Street area and initiated a traffic stop. Three people, identified as Edwards, Harjo and Pickett were inside. According to Ayers, Edwards bailed out of the vehicle and took off on foot, but Harjo and Pickett were taken into custody.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the victim had been driven to the Varnum area by Pickett, where Edwards allegedly robbed him of all his property, including his clothes, then beat him and dumped him out. According to Ayers, police later recovered all of the victim’s property. “A good Samaritan saw the victim on the roadside and gave him some clothes, but we don’t know who that was,” Ayers said. A multi-agency manhunt
A multi-agency manhunt for Edwards ensued in the Varnum area, but he slipped out of the perimeter that had been set up. He was later found in a cellar on Carson Drive and taken into custody.
Ayers said the alleged kidnapping was sparked because the victim had borrowed a car from Edwards and failed to return it. Harjo allegedly told the victim that someone would be coming to retrieve the vehicle, but the victim did not know that Edwards would be coming after it.
At press time, formal charges against Edwards from the Seminole County District Attorney’s Office were still pending. Harjo and Pickett were booked on tribal charges.
