Local Projects, Sewer Plant Tax to be Featured at Forum
Updates on two major community construction projects and information about the extension of a City sales tax will be the topics of discussion at the September Chamber Form on Thursday, September 9. The monthly gathering of civic club members and community guests will be held in Utterback Ballroom of the Haney Center on the campus of Seminole State College at noon.
Brandon Streater, developer of Blackburn Ridge Townhouses, will speak about the 78-unit project that will be built east of the Reynolds Wellness Center – running south from Strother Street. Ground was recently broken on the townhouse project.
Seminole State College President Emeritus Dr. Jim Utterback, who is overseeing a project funded by the SSC Educational Foundation to construct a multi-field sports complex just west of Seminole High School on Highway 9, will update the community on that project. The Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex will serve as home of Seminole State College baseball and soccer teams, and will provide fields for youth competitions as a major tourism attraction for the area.
Also at the September Forum, Seminole City Manager Steve Saxon will share information about the Nov. 9, 2021, election in which citizens will be asked to approve the extension of a half-cent sales tax to build a new sewer plant. The City’s current plant, built in 1940s is in need of replacement.
Seminole Chamber President Zac Northrip will introduce the speakers and serve as moderator for the question and answer portion of the program.
Thursday’s Forum is open to the public. Lunch is available for $8 – payable at the door to the Chamber. For more information about the September Forum, contact the Chamber office at 405-382-3640.
