Konawa Names Brett Interim City Manager

Posted in:

A new interim city manager has been named by the Konawa City Council to replace Tim Coffey, who tendered his resignation last week.

In a special meeting held last Friday evening, the council appointed Brett Wade to serve as city manager on an interim basis.

Sources say the council is in the process, or will be soon, to find someone to hold the position on a permanent basis.

Coffey, who has been in the city manager’s seat for the past three-and-a-half years, announced late last week that he was resigning. He served as interim city manager for more than two years before being hired on full-time.

Coffey said he will continue to serve as chief of the Konawa Volunteer Fire Department. He is also employed by OG&E and is stationed at the Konawa Plant.

According to his social media profile, Wade is a 1995 graduate of Wewoka High School and is employed as a driver for Energy Transfer Partners. He has been married to Tammy Wade since September 2005.

Konawa maintains a council-city manager type of government, which is used in 40 percent of American cities with populations of 2,500 or more, according to the 2011 Municipal Yearbook published by the International City/County Management Association.

The city manager is not an elected position. Rather, the holder of this office serves at the pleasure of the mayor and/or city council.

Generally, cities that use council-manager forms of government employ city managers. However, some mayor-council government cities, such as Fresno, California and Houston, Texas also utilize city managers.
