Keep Grass Clippings Off Streets, City Says

Posted in:

The City of Seminole reminds citizens that, according to ordinances, it is unlawful to throw grass clippings from the mower on the street.

8-1-7: DEPOSITING RUBBISH UNLAWFUL:

It is unlawful for any person to throw, place or deposit or remove any rubbish, trash, slop, garbage, filthy substance, grass, weeds, trees, brush or any other refuse or waste matter in any street, avenue, alley, ditch, watercourse or dumpster/polycart owned/leased by another, or upon the premises of another, or upon any public grounds in the City. (Ord. 976, 6-8-2004)

Here are three reasons why the city does not want grass clippings in the street.

1. It clogs the storm sewers which then leads to flooding in the area.

2. It creates a slippery surface and can be dangerous for motorcycles and bicycles.

3. If the grass clippings are too thick it may hide dangerous material like metal or glass that can lead to a car accident.

Citizens are asked to do their part by keeping grass clippings and other debris off the road to help keep our streets safe. All city ordinances are online at seminole-oklahoma. net.
