Independence Day Festival Set For July 3

Posted in:

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce has planned an Independence Day celebration for Saturday, July 3.

Festivities are slated to get underway at 5 p.m. in the downtown district, which will conclude with a huge fireworks display beginning at dark. The fireworks show is sponsored by the American Legion Post 204 and the Seminole Tourism Council.

“This is a family-friendly event, and everyone is welcome to attend,” said Amy Britt, Chief Executive Officer of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce. “We invite everyone to come out and celebrate our nation’s birthday. It’s going to be a wonderful time.”

Activities include live bands and inflatables for the kids to enjoy. Plenty of food will be available to snack on during the event. Although the fireworks will be launched from the municipal park, they will still be visible from downtown.

Derek Harris, an Oklahoma City artist who plays a variety of cover tunes and originals, will kick off the live entertainment portion of the celebration at 5:30 p.m., followed by “Smilin’ Vic” at 7 p.m., a blues artist who has shared the stage with the likes of Lou Rawls, Delbert McClinton, Etta James, Lonnie Mack and James Cotton. Banana Seat, a group that bills itself as “Oklahoma’s coolest, most fun party band,” will finish the evening off.

Britt said that around 5,000 people typically attend the event, so you should plan accordingly to allow for heavier than usual traffic and parking.
