Homecoming Week Concludes Tonight With Parade, Game

Posted in:

Seminole schools kicked off 2021 Homecoming Spirit Week on Monday, September 20th and there has been plenty of excitement leading up to tonight’s game. This year’s theme was “Out of this World.”

The Student Council did an excellent job of planning out a variety of events to keep the week fun and exciting. Homecoming Spirit was readily displayed in the halls and classroom, with a door decorating contest and a different, daily dress up theme. Students, faculty, alumni and the entire community have eagerly joined in the festivities, and the excitement has continued to build for tonight’s game!

The sps.k12.ok.us website states that, since as far back as 1928, the Chieftains have been celebrating the school, the alumni and the traditions during Homecoming week and they are honored to continue these traditions.

This year, Monday was “Jersey Day,” and everyone was encouraged to wear the jersey of their favorite team or player. Tuesday was “Cowboys vs. Aliens” day, which featured an interesting combination of celebrants dressed as either an alien or a cowboy. Wednesday’s “Metallic” dress up day encouraged students to “dress real shiny.” Thursday was “Color War” day, which assigned a specific color to each grade and challenged the students and supporters to have their color dominate the classrooms and hallways. Friday was “Green Out” day, with everyone encouraged to show their Chieftain Pride by putting on the green.

In addition to these daily displays of homecoming spirit, SHS revived a Chieftain tradition on Wednesday evening with a “Homecoming Car Smash” in the SHS west parking lot. For a $1 per minute donation participants could take their turn at smashing the “Stigler Wagon” with a sledgehammer.

Homecoming events planned for today include an invitation to alumni to tour the new Seminole High School Building beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Homecoming Pep Assembly will take place in the High School Gym at 2:00 p.m. At 4:00 p.m. the activities will move to Main Street for the Homecoming Parade. Entrants have spent the week working on their floats and decorating their bicycles for this special event, and the community is encouraged to gather on Main Street to watch and share in the excitement of Homecoming. Lineup is at 3:45 p.m. and the parade hits the bricks at 4:00 p.m.

The 2021 Homecoming Royalty Crowning Ceremony will be held at Chieftain Stadium at 6:30 p.m. and the game against Stigler will begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday Seminole Schools Alumni that have returned to celebrate Homecoming weekend will start the day with current members enjoying a Hall of Fame Breakfast in the Mirror Room at Seminole State College beginning at 9:00 a.m. At 2:30 the tickets “Will Call” desk will open at Haney Center for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to gather for fellowship at 3:00 p.m. before the 2021 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. The reunion weekend concludes with an “All Class Reunion” at Reynolds Wellness Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. The limited number of tables have been reserved.
