Highway 9 Antiques Plans Saturday Celebration as Eighth Year Begins

Posted in:

Bob and Denise Brown opened the Highway 9 Antiques shop eight years ago and the annual celebration of this event will take place this Saturday, August 9th. There will be plenty of door prizes and snacks will be served. Winners of the door prizes will be selected by 2 p.m. Saturday and the winners will be contacted by phone.

Highway 9 Antiques is located approximately three miles east of the Seminole Walmart on the south side of the highway. There are approximately 20 vendors who rent spaces in the shop. Though most of the vendors have been with the shop since it opened, the newer vendors have increased the variety of selections for the customers.

Every Saturday (weather permitting) the flea market vendors populate the large lot on both the west and east sides of the shop which serves as the location for the flea market. The vendors come from surrounding communities like Sasakwa, Stonewall, Earlsboro, Wetumka, Wewoka and of course Seminole. Some of the vendors are regulars and some are just trying to find a new home for their items. Julie and Kenneth Batey and Sharon and Terry Barrett were our first vendors. Quickly there after James Motley showed up and now many others have joined them. They are a community of individuals who enjoy doing what they are doing and doing with folks and customers they like! The flea market has grown to be the hub of this rural community on Saturday mornings throughout the year. Many vendors often just come to see one another on Saturday mornings. There’s only a small fee to set up and the vendors are always told to get there early because there are no reserved places.

“Hank the Tank”, the water tower, and “Windy the Windmill” greet all the HWY 9 visitors. In June, 2024, HWY 9 Antiques was blessed because William “Eddie” Hillhouse, who designed and created the sign for the shop, also made a larger sign for the Highway 9 roadside location. Al Barrett Construction not only graveled the east side of the shop for additional vendors but also, with the ground help of Mark Vance, erected the new HWY 9 Antiques sign. The shop couldn’t have asked for any better local talent to help!

The shop continues to welcome local visitors was well as people from all over the United States and throughout the world. Only recently did the shop welcomed visitors as far away as Bonn, Germany, Poland, Australia, and France. Though we are honored to have these travelers as our guests, it is the local “family” community that have been generous and faithful to come and join the group every Saturday-as weather permits.

Anniversary activities begin when the shop opens on Saturday at 8:00 am. If you haven’t already visited the flea market or browsed inside the shop, what’s stopping you? Come and join the fun!

HWY 9 Antiques will gladly welcome your visit!
