Health Department Looks to Distribute COVID Vaccine to Kids Before Summer

Posted in:

With summer and all the activities which come along with it fast approaching, the county health department hopes to set up mobile COVID-19 vaccine units geared toward kids 12 and up throughout the community in an attempt to combat any possible spike in cases.

According to Sara King, Director of Community Engagement and Planning and Public Information Officer for the Oklahoma Health Department, these mobile units are being sent out in an effort to get students vaccinated before they begin both their camps and programs, and before they head back to school in the fall. These units have already gone to a couple events in Norman, where they have been received well by the community.

The only vaccine currently available to kids 12 and over is the Pfizer variety, which King called, “highly effective.” Minors who attend these mobile units will need the consent of a parent or guardian in order to be eligible.

Though these summertime units are geared towards stopping the spread amongst adolescents, adults will be more than welcome to participate. “We are ready and willing to allow anybody that’s eligible to get the vaccine,” affirmed King.

The nearest mobile unit which the Health Department has planned for the

surrounding area will be in Holdenville on June 1 in the Dollar General parking lot from 10 to 2, then at the library for the rest of the afternoon. If interested in having the health department send a mobile unit to any upcoming community events, one can call (405) 271-5600.
