Griffin Reelected; Council Race Decided by One Vote
Over 300 voters braved Tuesday’s harsh winter to cast their ballots in two races in the City of Seminole.
Jeff Griffin was elected to a second term as mayor by a large margin, but the city council race was decided by only one vote.
Griffin was challenged, for the second time, by local businessman Lee Randle. Griffin received a total of 243 votes to Randle’s 111 votes. According to the state election board, 21 votes, 15 of which were for Griffin, were cast in early voting.
“Thank you for your vote,” Griffin said Tuesday evening. “As a lifelong Seminole resident, I am excited to continue serving as your mayor. Together we can work through the challenges, have successes and make Seminole better.”
In the Ward Two city council race, incumbent Eddie Foreman edged out Anthony Davidson by one vote. Foreman received 28 votes and Davidson walked away with 27. Davidson actually received more votes than Foreman did on election day, but early voting made the difference.
In Konawa, Dave Herriman retained his position as council member at large, receiving 19 votes to challenger Candice Pumilia’s seven votes.
Also appearing on Tuesday’s ballot in Konawa was a proposal to change the residency requirement area for the city manager in the city charter.
The proposition passed easily, receiving 21 “yes” votes. Only five votes were cast in opposition to the change.
Previously, the city’s charter stipulated that the city manager must live within the city limits, but with the approval of the amendment, the city manager may live within the city limits, the school district that overlaps the city limits or within 10 miles of the city or school district.
