Gallery America to Premiere Episode on Oklahoma’s Thriving Comic Book Scene
OETA’s Emmy Award winning program Gallery America is excited to announce the premiere of its upcoming episode on the comic book industry in Oklahoma. The episode, titled “The Comic Book Show”, is airing April 6th at 7PM on OETA and will feature the state’s thriving community of comic book creators and their contributions to the $15 billion global comic book industry.
Robert Reid, host and producer of Gallery America, was pleasantly surprised by the level of collaboration and energy within Oklahoma’s comic book community. “I’ll be honest, at first, I thought a story on comics in Oklahoma would be straight-forward: talk with an artist or two, maybe a self-publisher. But what we found was one of the art world’s most tight-knit and collaborative communities. The country and world are starting to notice Oklahoma’s creativity. Really, we’re only scratching the surface of Oklahoma comics. This was a lot of fun to do and I’m actually reading comic books again.”
The episode will showcase some of Oklahoma’s most talented comic book creators and highlight their unique stories and contributions to the scene. In addition, viewers will get a glimpse of the state’s vibrant comic book culture, from comic book publishers to an OU student who lived out a childhood dream to make a comic.
