Full-Blood Seminole Nation Member Declares Candidacy For Council Rep

Posted in:

Delois (Dee) Harjo has declared her candidacy for the Seminole Nation General Council. Her submitted press release appears below.

lstonko (Hello), I am Delois (Dee) Harjo, daughter of the late Samochee Harjo and Imogene (Little) Harjo.

I am an enrolled Full-Blood Seminole Nation member. I am currently working as the Administrative Assistant for the Seminole Nation Higher Education Department.

The community organizations that I am involved with are the Seminole County Community Alliance (SCCA), Women of Wonder (WOW), and the Professional Alliance toward Community Health (PATCH).

I am a member of the Hecete Band of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Widowed mother, of two daughters, and one son, grandmother of fourteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Siblings include one sister and three brothers.

There are many goals that I would like to attain, (1) to let my band members be informed of upcoming band meetings, (2) let my band members know what issues are facing the Seminole Nation so they can have a say or vote on a resolution.

I will voice my concerns and take a stand for my band members and inform the Chief. I will not play deaf ear or play blind. To be a successful council representative, all council representatives need to abide by the rules and regulations set forth in the Constitution of the Seminole Nation, and I declare that I will abide. We all need to work together.

I want my band members to have an impact to move our Nation forward, not backwards. My band members will have a part in voicing their concerns about elders, children, education, health care, churches, finances, human resources, employment, and environment. I will be available 24/7 to my band members if they have any questions.
