Fires Break Out Over Weekend; Two Homes in Area Damaged

Posted in:

It was a busy weekend for the Seminole Fire Department as firefighters battled two structure fires and a blaze in an area hayfield.

According to Seminole Fire Chief Fielding Lucas, the first fire broke out at around midnight Friday at a home located near NS359 and Highway 270. Lucas said an occupant of the home was cooking when some bags near the kitchen stove caught on fire. The house sustained smoke, heat and water damages. A broken water pipe was to blame for the water damage, according to Lucas.

At about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, firefighters responded to a structure fire at 614 Walnut. Lucas said the fire started around the home’s hot water tank, causing smoke, fire and water damages.

“The house was empty when the fire broke out and we were able to get it knocked down pretty quickly,” Lucas said.

The third weekend call came in at about noon on Sunday. The Seminole Fire Department, with the assistance of the Bowlegs Fire Department, extinguished a blaze at a hayfield located in the EW1270/Highway 99 area.

In addition to the three fires, Lucas said the department responded to multiple medical calls. No injuries were reported at any of the fires.
