Discovery of Over $200K in Stolen Items Leads to Arrest
A local man was arrested after authorities found more than $212,000 in stolen items on his property in rural Seminole County.
Kyle Gouker was arrested last week and booked into the Seminole County Jail on complaints of knowingly concealing stolen property.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Goodwin took a report on Feb. 23 that a backhoe had been stolen from the area of Highway 99A and NS 3610 Rd.
On Feb. 24, Deputy Brooks met with the owner of the backhoe, who had received information that it had been seen on property located near NS3610 and EW1140 Road. Officials said the backhoe could be seen through the trees at that location and appeared to be stuck on a pile of mud.
Brooks contacted Undersheriff Matt Haley to bring a drone in to assist in identifying the backhoe. With the assistance of the drone, it was determined that the backhoe was the same one that had been reported as stolen.
With that information, Haley was able to obtain a search warrant for the recovery of the backhoe. While recovering the backhoe, a skidsteer that had been reported as stolen by APAC Construction was located on the property. APAC representatives went to the location and were able to identify additional items that had been stolen from them.
An additional search warrant was obtained for the recovery of the skidsteer and the other stolen items. During the execution of the second search warrant, several more stolen items were discovered on the property.
The sheriff’s office said they were able to determine that the property owner had allegedly been stealing items for over a year and had been storing several of them at his residence.
The search of the property and recovery of the stolen items took two days to complete. A list of the items stolen and recovered is at the Sheriff’s Office. Most owners have been contacted but a few trailers and lawn equipment owners were still unidentified as of Friday.
“Thanks to alert citizens and the persistence of the backhoe owner, the Sheriff’s Office was able to recover over $212,000 worth of stolen property. The items had been stolen from multiple cities in Oklahoma,” the department said in a statement released Friday.
Those who would like to view the stolen items list should contact the sheriff’s department at (405) 257-5445.
