Deatherage Announces Candidacy For Seat on SNO General Council
Willis Deatherage has announced his candidacy for the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, General Council for the Tusekia Harjo Band.
Following is Deatherage’s campaign message:
“I have served the Seminole Nation in several capacities over the past 20 years. I’ve served as General Council Representative, Seminole Nation Gaming Commissioner, served on the Seminole Nation Development Authority Advisory Board as well as the Business Corporate Regulatory Commission.
My loyalty has and will always be to the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and not necessarily the Administration.
My legislative beliefs are as follows: Good government comes with good representation. Good representation comes with good communication. To be successful in business, marriage, life or politics communication is essential. All too often Tribal Ordinance changes are presented to the General Council without any input or knowledge from the effected party that has to stop. Legislation should benefit the Nation and not be used for revenge or personal gain. It is Okay for a representative to say, ‘I don’t know’ as long as it is followed by however, I will do my best to find out and get back with you.
The recent Supreme Court “McGirt” ruling has the potential to benefit the Seminole Nation in ways like never before, if handled correctly by the Seminole Nation leadership, or it could cause great harm to our Nation if mishandled.
With your help and support I would very much like to be a part of the Legislative body chosen by you to help make the important decisions facing the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
MVTO.”
